Sorority Sampler!

Why hasn't this been uploaded anywhere else? Maybe it has and I just can find it. I don't get it, especially since the bands on this record are truly amazing! All of them. Two other blogs have posted stuff from some of the bands featured on this comp/samp., Blue Blue Blue and Flower
This comp is just one big cup o' gothness, I cannot think of one bad track. My favorites are probably "Ballad of Arcane" and "Sex God Chant" by Brain Eaters and Sea Monster.

Word of warning though, this rip has got a lot of snaps, crackles and pops and the sound is a bit loud at certain points. I've tried to work around that to make the outcome more enjoyable, but, to be honest it could still be better.

Get it here!

Funny story: A friend and I (with the help from Joe from Brain Eaters) set up the Brain Eaters myspace page some years ago. Joe didn't even have the 7", so we bought a copy and sent it to him.

Bark Hard - Bark Hard LP

Since I have been posting some skate rock in the last couple of posts, I thought I might as well continue in the same line.
Here's Bark Hard's selftitled album remastered and released by Rabid Dog Records.
Bark Hard was the "house" band for Zorlac Skateboards (which Pushead did artwork for). This record sounds a little like a mix of JFA and Suicidal Tendencies bringing the humor and the speed from each band.

 Here.

PS: You can buy the record here, where I stole the picture and some of the "bio" from - because I'm too damn lazy to do things myself.

Hell's Kitchen - If You Can't Take the Heat...

Another record related to the Thrasher Skaterock series.
This band features ex-Verbal Abuse and Boneless Ones members! Two of their tracks ("Bloody Knees" and "Ain't no Beer") from their '87 demo "Fast Food" were included on Trasher Skate Rock Volume 6. The tracks were re-recorded and put on this record. This is trash metal, with a good dose of humor. Though, it's probably more correct to think of it as hard rock mixed with punk rock. So, it's NOT Slayer thrash metal. They released another album (Fistful of Chicken) in 1990 with a similar cover, but I've never really had the chance to check it out, so I have nothing else to say.
Includes a cover version of Spinal Tap's "Tonight I'm gonna Rock you Tonight"!

Slam - Ingens Slav.

Fuck yea, Swedish skaterock! This is a great hardcore act from Sweden. They were featured on Thrasher's amazing skate rock series entitled "Thrasher Skate Rock Vol 3 - Wild Riders of Boards" with the tracks "Jorden den är vår" and "Wild riders of boards". This record was released in 1984  on their own label Slam Records. I have a 7" and another 12" by them, which I'll try and upload sometime in the future, in the meantime you'll will have to settle with this.

Zoo Boutique - Forgive and Forget 7"

This is Zoo Boutique's first, if not only 7" release. I got this for free from some guy on eBay a long time ago (I think I might have gotten it with a 13th Chime single). I had never heard of the band before, and I still don't know anything about them except for what is posted on discogs. My copy is on clear vinyl, but I have no idea if that counts as anything special.
They play some sort of synth-ish new wave/synth pop (that basically the same thing, right?) and I like it very much. There's only two tracks on this "Forgive and Forget" and "Happy Families", it was released by Lightbeat Records in 1982.

Get it here.

There is no escape from THE ABOMINATION

The Abomination is a really crappy film. In the so-bad-it's-good kinda way. 80s-low-budget-gore-film, complete with a shallow plot, horrible acting, over-the-top violence and a killer soundtrack!

The whole point of this post was to upload the  title synth-track of the film (which sounds like something a certain danish band could have come up with (compliment)).

Get it while it's hot.

Mercenary '86 demo

A four track demo by American thrash metal band Mercenary. The band plays "Bay Area thrash metal" like the early Metallica and Megadeth. I bought this on eBay last year, and included with the tape was a letter written by Sven Soderland (the lead singer) to the guy I bought the tape from, Kristofer.

This tape is pretty cool and definitely worth checking out

Enjoy.

Devour - Inhuman Existance demo 1993

This is a death metal rarity (I hope)! Devour features Roger Patterson's brother on drums and backing vocals by Kreator's Millie on two of the tracks. To me, this demo has similarities to Obituary - but then again, I'm not the biggest death metaller. According to metal archives this is the only release by Devour.

Enjoy

Witch Hunt - Darkened Salvation demo 1995

This is Witch Hunt's "Darkened Salvation" demo from 1995. This is blackened/thrashy death metal. The demo is pretty cool, personally I find the vocals awesome - a bit similar to Generic's vocals - though, of course, more deathish. I don't know anything about this band except what is written at metal archives and the guy who sold me this tape said this is definitely their best release.
Note: the audio is a bit sucky at points on "Prophecies of a Great Plague" but you'll have to suffer through it.

Enjoy.

Danse Macabre promo tape

Here's another goodie I found on eBay. Danse Macabre (British band) sent this tape to a venue sometime in the 80s in order to secure a gig. This is a two track promo with the tracks "Solitude" and "Deathwish". DM later changed the lyrics and the title of "Solitude" to "Jester's Farewell". I having a hard time "fitting" this to a genre, is sounds like a mix of dark/gloomy punk rock mixed with some slight progressive elements - like a punkier version of Iceland's Icecross.

Enjoy.

Eisiger Wald - Sur le chemin de la déliverance

Eisiger Wald (German for Icy Forest) is amazing. This is a one-man-black-metal-band from France, not part of LLN (I'm basing this assumption mainly because it's actually possible to pronounce the name). Anyways, the genre here is depressive black metal. I don't know if this qualifies as a rare tape since there's only 100 copies of it - but in the end it really depends on "supply and demand", no? This has got a slight Burzum-vibe, so if you like Burzum - this might be right up your alley!

Enjoy.

Skulldiggers promo/demo tape 1984

Here's a rare treat! I bought this tape on eBay last year, I think. Can't believe I got it as cheap as I did.
Anyways, Skulldiggers are a hardcore band from Boise with Paul and Onj from Septic Death on drums and bass respectively. The band plays slow/melodic (slower than Septic Death at least) hardcore with a bit of "whoa-ooos" like The Misfits. Lyrically it's a horror-oriented, again as The Misfits, as opposed to Septic Death's bacteria-infested-nuclear-like-world-view. The tape has a "Green Feast" and a "Rot" side. The songs on the "Rot" side sound identical to the songs on the "Green Feast" side, so this upload includes only the "Green Feast" side. If anyone has any additional info or live songs, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Band info:
Brad K. - Guitar
Onj (Septic Death) - Bass
Paul (Septic Death) - Drums
Brad A. - Vocals

Recorded in 1984 by H. Wise.

Black Flag 1981 demos.

People have told me that this is in fact the "Damaged Sessions" from 1981, but I'm not sure what to believe. Fact is, it sounds more like Dez than it sounds like Henry - and I would imagine that the "Damaged Sessions" would feature Henry on vocals, since he was singing on Damaged, no? Besides these "demos" includes versions of "American Waste" which sounds almost identical to the one found on the "Six Pack" single. Anyways, its a pretty good listen and definitely worth checking out if you're into Black Flag.

Rudimentary Peni at St James Church '82

Here's a live show with the great Rudimentary Peni at St. James Church in London in  16-01-82. The sound quality is surprisingly good compared other live recordings (by any band) I've heard. If you don't know the band then go to either their wiki or their myspace. The band still puts out records (occasionally), so go ahead a buy something.

Tracklist:
Cosmetic Plague, Play, Teenage Time Killer, Zero Again, Media Person, Subdued Violence, Tower of Strength, Mice Race, Blind Dogs, Dead Living, Bloody Jellies, The Gardener, B-Ward, Farce, Hearse, Sacrifice, Him Hymn, Crazy Chain, The Bile Ball, Cosmetic Plague (cuts off). The total length of the show is 34:05 mins.

RP stuff can be bought here and on eBay.

Picture is unrelated.

S-Haters discography

S-Haters (originally stood for School Haters according to the insert in my copy of Death of a Vampire 7") were an amazing British deathrock-ish-gothic-post-punky-wave-kinda-thing. I can't help to think of them as a mix of The Magits and Rudimentary Peni.
While this might not have same anarcho vibe as RP or perhaps Part 1, I suspect that these band played together occasionally (despite that RP didn't play live that much). Someone describe them as Joy Division meets RP.
This band started in the late 70s and had several line-up changes, they had 30 different members (mostly drummers) and even Nick Blinko was in the band briefly.
At first their records were released on RPs label, Outer Himalayan, then later on Midnight Music.

This upload includes all their records; Death of a Vampire 7", Stories as Cold as the Irish Sea 7", Come 12", Solitary Habit 12" (the two track version 7" is frequently on eBay - for $1!!) and the White Noise 12". They also had two tracks on The Thing From The Crypt 12" comp which was uploaded here.

Enjoy.

Casbah - Russian Roulette

Okay, here it is. THE most definitive thrash metal 7" ever fucking produced. EVER! This is a japanese thrash metal band formed in '83 by the singer Taka Hatori and this is their second release from 1986. I don't know what else to say than this band fucking rips! Some of the fastest, thrashiest, brutal, "axe-beating" ever produced. The band would frequently use face paint by painting Iron Crosses all over their faces! Doesn't get more badass than that. Period.

This single is frequently on eBay - and can usually be bought for $20-$40.

More info here, and there are several clips on youtube too.

Funeral Address - The Collection

My history with this band is essentially the same as with Texas Vamps. One track with the Texas Vamps and one track with Funeral Address was ripped via StationRipper by a friend of mine. The first song I heard was Orange Flight and I fucking loved every second of it.
Funeral Address was a death/goth rock band from somewhere in Germany. I have no idea if they released anything else than this CD-R compilation (in 2001) which you could buy from their website (it's down now). The tracks on the compilation are from 1990 and 1992 - twelve tracks in total. They changed their name to Fallen Apart in 1994.
Someone uploaded one of the tracks to youtube that you can check out before you download.

Texas Vamps - collected works.

I guess it has been 4 (maybe 5) years ago since I first heard of the Texas Vamps. A friend played me their "hit", If I don't wake up Today (featured on the Kaliffornian Deathrock comp), and I was hooked immediately. I listened to that track endlessly for 2 years until I realized they had 4 more tracks on their myspace page - and then finally someone shared this!
Texas Vamps were a deathrock band, who existed between 89-92. I'd like to think that their sound is quite unique - it's got a heavier edge than most of the "trad-goth" bands, and I like that. They were part of the Hollywood scene and played shows with Christian Death, Shadow Project, London After Midnight and more.

This upload includes two tapes they released, along with a live show at the Whiskey from 1992. I took the liberty to edit some tags, adding pictures and such.

Enjoy.
